BBC:¨The laws are designed to protect endangered species like badgers and otters¨

So let me see, DEFRA is trying to exterminate badgers because they are implicated in the transmission of bovine TB. Yet at the same time, another branch of the state is making it illegal to kill badgers for their pelts in order to protect an endangered species.

Are we ruled by fuckwits or what??

Another ingeneous way of "raising revenue" (stealing money from citizens) by the state. Environmentalism is becoming THE number one "moral excuse" for squeezing even more cash out of their victims.

The BBC hasn't spelt it out:

The newly elected SNP is already putting a TAX on being SCOTTISH!

....you couldn't make it up!

No, DEFRA are likely to duck the issue of a cull of badgers, in favour of a continuing cull of cattle.

Why this should be, who knows. After all, cattle are animals too, but no one seems too upset about them (except farmers, and why should DEFRA care about them..?).
